Growing Together: A Summer of Partnership at Groundwork Erie

Partnerships make our mission to create a greener Erie possible. Groundwork Erie has partnered with over 30 individuals and organizations to make this summer possible for our youth! By working alongside these incredible organizations and individuals, we can grow a greener Erie together. Check out some of our great partnerships below!

Supporting our Youth on Tuesday, August 12th

On August 12th, Groundwork Erie is teaming up with the Erie Community Foundation and the Non-Profit Partnership for a day of community giving. We invite you to give back to the youth who are working toward a greener, healthier, and more resilient Erie.

A donation on Erie Gives Day empowers our youth to grow a greener city for everyone.

Even though Erie Gives Day has come to a close, you can still be a valued partner and donate here!

Water Testing: Erie County Conservation District

Our Green Teamers spent an afternoon with Kristen Currier, Environmental Educator at Headwaters Park, learning about the Mill Creek watershed, testing water quality, and learning the importance of watershed health. It was great to take time to reconnect to nature in this way and learn more about our local ecosystem!

Compost Install at 4th Street Farm with Allison Lucas

With guidance from Allison Lucas, our team set up a composting system at the 4th Street Farm. We can now compost landscaping clippings, organic matter from the farm, and food scraps from our office!

Sharing the Harvest: Emmaus Soup Kitchen & Herb and Honey Bakery

The 100 feet of zucchinis planted by Food Policy Council volunteers and tended by Green Team have been prolific this season!

Abundance means sharing the harvest. Our 4th Street Farm zucchini was served at an evening meal at Emmaus Soup Kitchen and included in a beautiful summer squash pastry by our friends at Herb and Honey Bakery.

It is great to see produce leave the farm and feed our community!

Bayfront Beautification with the Port Authority

Our Green Teamers cleaned up over 60 pounds of recycling material from the waterfront in collaboration with the Port Authority. The Port Authority staff gave us a tour of the Bicentennial Tower and provided a delicious pizza lunch!

Our crew saw firsthand the importance of keeping our bay clean!

Neighborhood Clean Up with Love Your Block

Together with the Love Your Block program and City of Erie Public Works Department, our Green Teamers collected more than 45 tires, 50 TV screens, old couches, mattresses, lawn equipment, a broken wooden swing, and more. Together we were able to fill a 30-yard dumpster and a 15-yard dumpster with junk and debris from the neighborhood!

Check out our impact throughout the whole city!
